A team of Central Vigilance Commission has reached the Supreme Court with its probe report on the CBI director Alok Verma
The apex court will also hear the director Alok Verma's plea in the corruption charges levied against him, by his deputy, Rakesh Asthana and he will also put his case forward regarding the government's decision to send him on leave.
The Supreme Court, on October 26, had asked the CVC to conduct an inquiry in the matter in respect to the allegation made against the CBI director Alok Verma within a period of 2 weeks and had set November 12 as the date for submitting the report.
The apex court had also appointed a retired Supreme Court judge to look into the matter and supervise the inquiry, being conducted by the CVC.
The government had earlier sent both the director and special director on leave, until the inquiry in the matter got completed and made M Nageshwar Rao, the joint director as the acting chief of the agency.
The case pertains to a complaint filed by Satish Babu Sana, a suspect in the Moin Qureshi bribery scandal, on whose statement the CBI director Alok Verma had filed an FIR against Rakesh Asthana and made him the prime accused. The Sana has calimed that he payed 3 crore bribe to the special director and Rakesh Asthana has claimed that he was in UK to hear the Vijay Mallya case.
The case is now in the Supreme Court and the next hearing will begin today in the matter, wherein the agencies reputation is at stake and the civil war which erupted inside the office has now turned ugly.
