In a shameful event, a teenage girl was brutally thrashed by villagers in Bihar and tied to a tree on the orders of local panchayat. Even the girl's parents were among the villagers who supported the village court's decision. The 18-year-old girl was heinously assaulted for running away with a boy of different caste and village.
The video of the alleged incident of Bihar's Rajauli village Nawada district has gone viral on social media. According to reports, the girl ran away with her boyfriend on September 30 and the couple was living in a nearby village until her parents and other villagers caught her and dragged her back to Rajauli against her own will.
Nawada: Girl was tied to a tree and thrashed for hours today on a Panchayat's diktat for eloping with a man on September 30. Father says, 'she was tied because she is a criminal. She wants to go with a man from another caste'. #Bihar pic.twitter.com/62tzrV2rtp

In the video, the girl could be seen in a semi-conscious state - tied to a tree with a rope as villagers are seen standing around the woman.
The teenager said she knew the man she eloped with for about 1.5 years. "Yes," she said, sobbing when asked if she wanted to stay with him.
"I want someone from our own caste for my daughter," the girl's father said. "She slipped out of the home with some excuse when there was no power at night. We searched the entire street. When we got tired of searching, we woke up our brothers. I didn't know when she ran away. All I know is that she told the Panchayat that she loved this man," the father said.
Regional media reported that the girl fainted multiple times during the assault but that did not deter the men from thrashing her.
