Bihar: Massive protests in Gaya after a 16-year-old girl found beheaded, face burnt with acid; family alleges rape

In yet another shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl’s beheaded body was found on Sunday in Bihar’s Gaya. The teen girl’s face was burnt with acid and had deep gashes on her chest. This heinous crime has irked massive protests in the town, 111 km far from capital Patna.

Reportedly, the teen's family alleges the minor was raped. The police, however, believe it was a case of killing over family honour. Following the incident, there is growing public anger over the lack of arrests of the accused and a perceived delay in police action.

According to NDTV reports, the girl was missing since December 28. After a week her body was found in a decomposed state on January 6. Her family alleges the police did not act on their missing complaint promptly.

However, Senior police officer Rajiv Mishra came up with a different story. He says the girl's mother and sisters claimed she had returned home on December 31, three days after she went missing. Her father sent her with a man known to the family at around 10 pm the same night, the police said.

The suspect man has been detained but has denied killing the girl. But his call records indicate he was in touch with several local criminals. An autopsy report will confirm whether the girl was raped.
