Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Former Prime Minister died at 05:05 pm; here's full statement by AIIMS hospital

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Former Prime Minister, and veteran BJP leader passed away at the age of 93 at AIIMS hospital in Delhi. Veteran BJP leader was admitted to the AIIMS of 11 June following kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection and low urine output, died on Thursday evening at 5:05 pm. His death was confirmed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Atal ji was under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, the Director of AIIMS. For over three decades, Dr Guleria, a pulmonologist, had served as personal physician to Mr Vajpayee.

Seven-day mourning across India till August 22 for three-time Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been announced. Delhi schools to remain closed tomorrow. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also referred as Bhishma Pitamah of politics.

"It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05 pm on 16.08.2018

Shri Vajpayee was admitted in AIIMS on 11.06.2018 and was in the last 9 weeks under the care of a team of AIIMS doctors.

Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated over the last 36 hours and he was put on life support systems. Despite the best of efforts, we have lost him today.

We join the nation in deeply mourning this great loss."

Mr Vajpayee was kept on life support since last two days in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Atal Ji was a diabetic patient and had only one kidney functional. After the stroke that hit him in the year 2009, his cognitive abilities have also weakened. Later, he also developed dementia.
