Rajasthan’s Jodhpur city has been placed under a tight security blanket because of the verdict on Asaram likely to be announced tomorrow i.e. 25 April 2018. The self-styled godman, who has around 400 ashrams in the country was guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl five years ago.
The security gets tightened so as to banned the huge gathering of the followers of Asaram. Therefore, Rajasthan High Court, as well as Police, have increased the security in the state to avoid any riots or illegal steps taken by the followers during the pronouncement of the verdict. Reportedly, the security has also been tightened around the alleged accused house in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Jodhpur Police, Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will be imposed in Jodhpur till 30 April. The judgement on Asaram rape case will be pronounced inside the Jodhpur Central Jail on 25 April. Rajasthan High Court also appeals to the public to follow all law and orders. Talking about Section 144 of the CrPC of 1973, it empowers an executive to prohibit an assembly of more than four people in an area.
The decision was taken by the court to announce the verdict against the self-styled godman on 17 April in Jodhpur Central Jail only to avoid any law and order situation in the state.
The Asaram was charged with sexually assaulting a teenaged girl in his ashram in Manai village near Jodhpur. Asaram has been in jail since 31 August 2013. He was charged with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. If the judgement comes against the accused then he will be sentenced to jail maximum 10 years.
