Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday stated that 1,548 people have been evacuated from Delhi’s Nizamuddin markez out of which, 441 have been hospitalised after they showed symptoms of Covid-19.
In a video press conference, Arvind Kejriwal stated that 1,107 people, who were present at the religious congregation in Nizamuddin, have been quarantined.
The Chief Minister stated that out of 97 cases of SARS-CoV-2 in the national capital, 24 were those who took part in the gathering earlier this month.
Kejriwal also launched an attack on the organisers of the religious gathering saying it was ‘highly irresponsible’ on their part to convene such an event at the time when thousands have died in other nations because of the pathogen.
He stated that his government has already written a letter to the Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal recommending the registration of an FIR against the organisers.
Arvind Kejriwal further stated that any lapse in functioning of the officials related to the Nizamiddin case will not be accepted and firm action will be taken.
He also emphasized that there was no community transmission of Covid-19 thus far in the city and the situation was under control.
Out of 97 cases, he said 86 were stable while one was on ventilator and two were being given oxygen.
He also stated that the Delhi government will start providing food for around 3,775 and shelters to around 10-12 lakh people from Wednesday.
Even though such massive number of people are unlikely to turn up for food but more distribution centres will help in maintaining social distance, he said.
The industrialists trying to help should donate protective gears for medical staff who are working on the frontline, testing kits and ventilators which are much needed now, he said.
