The administration of Aligarh Muslim University on Thursday suspended 3 Kashmiri students who tried to offer funeral prayers following the death of Hizbul terrorist and former research-scholar Mann Wani.
The operation was carried out by the Army’s 30 Rashtriya Rifles in Kupwara district of Kashmir.
Conforming the decision of the administration, proctor of the university Mohsin Khan said, “The three Kashmiri students were suspended as they violated the university’s discipline and rules and indulged in unlawful assembly. Four other students who supported the namaz will be issued a show cause notice. The students and their academic details are being identified. Anti-national activities will not be tolerated in the university campus.”
Students had gathered around the Kennedy Hall allegedly to offer funeral prayers following the death of Mann Wani, who was pursuing a Ph.D in geology at the Aligarh Muslim University, when earlier this year he joined the militant group.
Former president of AMU Students’ Union Faizul Hassan requested the students to back off and not perform the prayer for Wani. He said “I opposed their decision. I told them if they want to do this, they should go to Kashmir as such activities defame the university. I have never supported terrorists and never will.”
News of funeral prayers being held for terrorist Manan Wani in AMU is completely false. “The university had already expelled Wani, so none of the students have had any contact with him. Wani chose that path and was punished for it,” Faizul Hassan later added.
AMU Student Union’s president Maskoor Ahmad said “The government should, however, discover the reasons why such a bright research scholar quit studies and joined the terror outfit. Maybe he thought that this was the only way to convey his message? The government should take this matter seriously so that no other youth or student thinks of taking such a step. If he was a terrorist, we have no sympathies for him.”
