Kicking off the political campaign in Bengal on Friday, BJP president Amit Shah has said that the party will win 23 seats out of 42 in the state.
While addressing a rally in Alipurduar district where election is scheduled to take place on April 11, Shah took a dig at Trinamool Congress and CM Mamata Banerjee for creating an atmosphere of fear and murdering democracy.
In the midst of rally, BJP president promised to bring in National Register for Citizenship and throw out ‘infiltrators’ from the state.
Amit Shah in Alipurduar, WB: This election is very important for this nation but for WB it's important for its identity. It will decide if there'll be democracy here. Shah said, “Mamata didi thinks infiltrators will help her win the election this time. But we will bring NRC in West Bengal and will drive out infiltrators. They are misleading the people about refugees. But I want to assure them that we will allow refugees to live here with dignity.”
Bringing in the Navratri fervor, Amit Shah added by saying that people are required to take permissions to hold Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja, but “now, no one will stop the people from holding Durga puja once BJP forms a government here.”
BJP president thereafter attacked the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee for ‘destroying democracy’ and said, “This election is very important for this nation but for WB it's important for its identity. It will decide if there'll be democracy here. The manner in which Mamata didi governed this state, they only worked towards destroying the culture of Bengal.”
Voting in West Bengal begins from April 11 and will continue until May 19 as the Election Commission has decided to hold polls in all seven phases on the 42 Lok Sabha constituency. The results will be announced on May 23.
