Aligarh BJP MLA grandson demanded a temple in AMU for 6,000 Hindu students

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student has raised a demand for the construction of the Saraswati Temple inside the AMU campus.

Notably, the student named Ajay Singh, an LLM student at the AMU is a grandson of the city BJP MLA Dalveer Singh.

Ajay has raised his demand via a letter written to the AMU vice-chancellor.

He said that ‘there are 6,000 Hindu students in the varsity but there is no temple in the campus, while there are mosques in almost every hostel.’ He asked the university that ‘what kind of secularism is this?’

‘When there can be temples in Arab countries, which are 100 per cent Muslim countries, why can't there be one here in AMU? I want to ask this question to all the secular people, to the Congress as well, who preach these talks but have never talked about a temple in AMU,’ Ajay Singh asked.

Meanwhile, AMU LLM student also gets the support of the National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education member Dr Manvendra Pratap Singh.

He said that the secularity of a university will only be acceptable when there should be construction of temples, mosques, gurudwaras and church side-by-side.

On the other hand, Faizul Hasan, the ex-AMU student’s union president was not in a favour of a construction of the temple inside the campus. He also recalled the 2015 Supreme Court’s verdict that the construction or demolition of any religious building in central universities or educational institutions is prohibited.

He further told that even if the demand for temple construction gets the support of the whole university then also, a temple will not be constructed within the AMU campus because of the SC’s verdict.
