In a gruesome incident, a woman was shot dead by a man inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri, which has invited the wrath from women activists across the nation.
The woman was reportedly killed over a land dispute.
The accused was nabbed by people, who thrashed him in front of police.
Meanwhile, condemning the incident, women rights activists called for stringent action against the culprit.
"Nothing has changed in Uttar Pradesh with the change in regime. It is really horrible thing that people feel so bold that they go to police station and kill a woman. Strict action should be taken against the matter," activist Subhashini Ali told ANI.
Another women's activist Annie Raja cornered Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that the incident shows the hollow promises made by the party during the election campaign.
"During the election campaign BJP had asked vote for the safety and security of women .This incident shows BJP's hollow promises and speeches. Safety of every citizen is the responsibility of the government. This shows the direction with which Adityanath government is moving ahead. It is very condemnable and shocking because it happened in police station premise and in the presence of the police," Raja told ANI.
She further said that the police in the state are not bothered to prevent any crime, adding that more horrible crimes in Adityanath tenure are expected to come forth.
