4.0 magnitude earthquake hits Assam’s Nagaon

A tremor of 4.0 magnitude was recorded in Assam’s Nagaon on February 12, said National Center for Seismology.

As per NCS, the tremors were recorded at 16.18 pm at the depth of 10 kms.


“Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on 12-02-2023, 16:18:17 IST, Lat: 26.10 & Long: 92.72, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: Nagaon, Assam,” tweeted NCS.

Yesterday, an earthquake of 3.8 magnitude hit Surat district in Gujarat. The tremor was recorded at 12:52 am with its epicentre some 27 kilometres west south west (WSW) of Surat.

Gujarat faces a high earthquake risk and has witnessed major incidents in 1819, 1845, 1847, 1848, 1864, 1903, 1938, 1956 and 2001, said Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA).

Recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, which claimed thousands of lives, have raised serious concerns and prompted scientists and researchers to study the devastating tremors in an effort to ensure that people can be safer from future natural disasters.
