1987 Hashimpura mass murders case: 4 out of 15 jawans of UPPAC have surrenders before Delhi's Tis Hazari Court; to be sent to Tihar jail

The Hashimpura massacre case, in which the court had convicted the four of the 16 Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel have surrendered before the Tis Hazari court today.

The 4 personnel will now be sent to Tihar jail by the court, and the Delhi High Curt had given them tie till today to surrender before the court in Hashimpura massacre incident. The court has issued a non-baliable warrant against the 12 other security personnel involved in the case.

The court had overturned a trial court verdict, giving the accused a life imprisonment on November 1 and said in a finding that, “this case points to the systemic failure that results, not infrequently, in miscarriage of justice.”

In the verdict, the Delhi High Court has said that, “Around 42 to 45 men, old and young, all Muslim, were rounded up by the PAC, packed into a truck and taken away. Each of them was shot by the PAC personnel with .303 rifles in cold blood and the bodies dispatched to a watery grave — some in the Gang nahar (Ganga canal) and the remaining in the Hindon river.”

Earlier, in March 2015, a trial court had acquitted all the 16 army jawans from the massacre case and held that, “it has not been proved beyond reasonable doubts.”

News agency ANI tweeted, “Four out of 15 jawans of Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary (UPPAC) have surrendered before Delhi's Tis Hazari Court. The four will be sent to Tihar jail. The Court has issued non-bailable warrant against rest of the jawans.”
