As the decision of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots was pronounced by the Delhi High Court today, sentencing Sajjan Kumar for life, Congress leader Salman Khurshid might be planning to challenge the verdict.
In a clear decision by the Delhi High Court, after delaying for 34 years, it said “In the summer of 1947, during partition, several people were massacred. 37 years later Delhi was the witness of a similar tragedy. The accused enjoyed political patronage and escaped trial.”
Post this verdict, a sense of relief and welcoming note was shared amongst the petitioners and the lawyer HS Phoolka, for whom this has been a battle of survival.
AAP leader Jarnail Singh has claimed saying, “We got to know that Congress leader Salman Khurshid spoke of challenging the Delhi High Court's decision on Sajjan Kumar. It's a matter of extreme shame that instead of expelling him from the party, he is speaking of challenging the decision.”

The Delhi High Court restricted Kumar from leaving Delhi, stating “Sajjan Kumar shall not from this moment till his surrender leave the NCT of Delhi and shall immediately provide to the CBI the address and mobile number(s) where he can be contacted.”
Manjinder Singh of the Shiromani Akali Dal had said, “We thank the court for giving us justice. Our fight will continue till Sajjan Kumar & Jagdish Tytler get a death sentence & Gandhi family is dragged to the court & put in jail.”
Finance Minister Aun Jaitley welcomed the Delhi High Courts verdict and said, “Judgement of Delhi High Court is an extremely welcome development. For many of us who are witnesses, it was perhaps the worst kind of genocide that we ever saw. Congress govts in that period repeatedly indulged in cover-up exercises.”
