Lakhs of children suffer from depression in our country. Unrealistic academic, social, or family expectations can create a strong sense of rejection and can lead to deep disappointment amongst teenagers. Those who suffer from depression often take extreme steps and sometimes teens feel so depressed that they consider ending their lives.
To understand and help teenagers suffering from depression, Noida-based artist Husnal, a class 12th student, uses painting and model making as a way to raise awareness about depression in teenagers. After seeing a close family member undergo depression, she began to explore her creativity in an attempt to understand the emptiness of suffering mental and emotional disorders. Her work is currently on display at the Grand Venice Mall in Noida.
A student of Model School, Delhi, Husnal’s art sheds light on the issue of growing mental illness and depression amongst children. Adolescence is always an unsettling time, with many physical, emotional, psychological and social changes that accompany this stage of life. Depression can be difficult to diagnose in teens because adults may expect teens to act moody.
They may not be aware of the symptoms of depression and may not seek help. Husnal hopes to offer a unique perspective on teen depression through her work. Through an inimitable combination of creativity and art, her paintings also depict ways to help younger minds, who struggle with anxieties, to come out of depression, put them back on track and bring them hope for the future.

Besides exhibiting her artwork, Husnal is also selling them and has already begun to see traction through an online platform. The revenue generated from it will be used to help and encourage children suffering from depression, orphans and those from lower economic backgrounds. The proceeds will also go towards assisting school drop-outs to find their feet and progress in life.
When many Class 12th kids are not even aware of the things happening around them, this angelic soul has tried to help others by selling her paintings. This proves that this young girl not only makes astonishing artwork but also has a heart of gold.
