Happy Teachers' Day 2019: Not only India but these countries also celebrate Teachers' day but on different dates

Every year Teachers’ day is celebrated on September 5 in the honour of India’s first vice-President and second President of Indian Dr. Sarvepallai Radhakrishnan. Besides, he was a respected scholar and teacher of philosophy which made him a great teacher.

Therefore, 5th September marked not only as the birthday of Dr. Radhakrishnan but also as India’s Teachers’ Day.


On this special day, students show their token of affection to their favorite teachers and also offer them flowers, greeting cards, and gifts.

But, do you know that Teachers’ Day is not only celebrated in India but also in various countries? If your answer is no, then we are to update your general knowledge.

Let’s check out the list of countries who celebrate teachers’ day:

1. USA

In the USA, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the Tuesday of the first full week of May. Here students also honour their teachers by conducting several activities in their school.

Interestingly, the celebrations may continue for the entire week of the month.

2. Russia

Till 1965 and 1994, Teachers’ Day was celebrated on the first Sunday of October. Since 1994, the day is observed on 5th October, which is fall on the same date when World Teachers’ Day was started by UNESCO in 1994.

3. China

Teachers' Day was founded at National Central University in 1931. In 1932, the central government of the Republic of China adopted the day. It is celebrated on 27th August on the birthday of Confucius. But, people’s Republic of China abrogated it in 1951. Later, it re-established in 1985, but, the date changed to September 10.

4. Thailand

On 16 January, National Teacher's Day is celebrated every year. It was adopted as the Teachers’ Day in the island nation by a resolution of the government on November 21, 1956.
For the first time, the Teachers’ Day was celebrated and the day is declared as a holiday in schools.

5. Malaysia

In Malaysia, Teachers’ day is celebrated on the 16th of May. It is called Hari Guru in the Malay language. However, it is a working day.
