Stressed due to fertility problems? New research proved that eating tomatoes could tackle fertility problems in men.
The study of a small cohort of men has revealed that the pigment that gives the tomato, a red color i.e. Lycopene, could help in boosting the fertility and sperm quality in men.
Scientists during research found that men who took the tomato puree in a day as a supplement were having good fertility or better quality sperm.
Male infertility affects those couples who couldn’t conceive.
With this study, a scientist claimed that the red pigment of the fruit could hail the end of invasive and costly treatment of fertility problems in the future.
Researchers also found that lycopene which is available in tomatoes is not absorbed when it is eaten, so scientists conclude that it would need to be administered as a tablet.
In 12-week of research on 30 healthy volunteers eat the pigment as a supplement in 14mg doses, whilst another 30 took placebos, without knowing what they are eating.
The team analyzed the sperm samples collected at the beginning and end of the trial.
Researchers found in a study that those man taken the supplement called LactoLycopene- a pill created by supplement manufacturer Cambridge Nutraceuticals Ltd, had almost 40% more fast-swimming sperm than when they began the trial, along with improvements to its size and shape.
