The second and final phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections began on Thursday morning and saw several political heavyweights cast their votes across Central and North Gujarat.

BJP members such as Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and LK Advani voted from Ahmedabad, Naranpura and Khanpur respectively. Meanwhile, other leaders in the limelight, especially from the Opposition include Alpesh Thakor, who is contesting from Radhanpur and Congress-backed Independent candidate Jignesh Mevani from Vadgam.

As many 851 candidates are contesting for 93 Assembly seats across 14 districts in the second phase. While the key among them are Ahmedabad and Vadodara, which have been longstanding bastions of the BJP thus far; Anand, Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Kheda and Chhota Udepur also voted.

It remains to be seen whether Congress will create an upset or will BJP retain its mainstays?
