My father, an ex-Army man, inspired me to represent India at Olympics: Boxer Manoj Kumar

The gold medalist of Commonwealth game Manoj Kumar had stunned the world in Rio Olympics 2016 by defeating two times Olympic medalist to enter in pre-quarterfinals.

Manoj Kumar belongs to Rajound village of Haryana. His father is an ex-Army man, whose only wish was to see his son winning the medal for India. Although, Manoj was not able to grab any medals in either Rio Olympic or in London Olympics 2012, yet the boxer managed to grabbed the eye-balls of many with his fierce performance in Olympics.

Manoj had defeated Bradley Saunders of England by 11-2 in the final of commonwealth game 2010 and became champion. Even after winning gold in 2010 commonwealth games, he lost the quarterfinals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Sam Maxwell. He won the Arjuna Award in 2014.

After winning gold in the Commonwealth 2010, the boxer did not win any major tournament till 2015. In 2015 Manoj made a strong comeback and won a gold medal in Doha International Tournament.
In the year 2016, Manoj once again shined in South Asian Games held in Guwahati after winning the gold medal in his weight category.
