Guna: No Homework for Students up to Class 4 in Government Schools
Guna (Madhya Pradesh): In a significant move, the government has introduced a new system in its schools, where students up to class 4 will not have any homework. This decision has been taken to reduce the burden of school bags and to provide a better learning environment for the students.
According to the new system, students of class 5 will have a maximum of 2 hours of homework per week, while students of classes 6 to 8 will have a maximum of 1 hour of homework per day. Students of classes 9 to 12 will have a maximum of 2 hours of homework per day.
In addition to this, the government has also introduced a joint guideline for classes 1-2 and classes 3-4, which includes a weekly lesson plan for Hindi, Mathematics, and English subjects.
The guideline also emphasises the importance of practical learning, where students will learn through activities and experiments.
The government has also instructed schools to observe one day a week as "Bag-Free Day", where students will not be required to carry their bags to school. This day will be utilized for vocational activities and other co-curricular activities.
Private Schools Fail to Implement Government Orders
Despite the government's orders to reduce the burden of school bags, private schools have failed to implement the same. The Ministry of Human Resource Development issued an order on November 24, 2020, but private schools have not complied with the same.
The District Education Office also issued a letter on September 28, 2022, and three other letters were issued subsequently. Moreover, the High Court had also made it mandatory to reduce the burden of school bags on May 15, 2024. However, private schools have not taken any action in this regard.
Government's Warning to Private Schools
The government has warned private schools that if they do not comply with the orders, the Block Education Officer will conduct an inquiry and submit a report. The government will take action against those schools that fail to implement the orders.
"We are implementing the government's orders in government schools, where students will do their homework in school, and the weight of their school bags will be limited. If private schools do not comply with the orders, we will take action against them," said Chandrashekhar Sisodia, DEO.
