It must be sad news for the aspirants who are planning to do the distance degree programmes in agriculture as UGC has denied providing the course.

In the last meeting of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the decision was taken by the higher education regulator that UGC would not provide the distance degree courses in agriculture. The reason behind taking this decision was that agriculture is a technical course in nature and it requires some practical or laboratory courses.

As per the reports of PTI, a senior official told that the matter had been referred to the commission and also requested to prohibit universities from offering the Open and Distance Learning courses in agriculture.

However, candidates who have already enrolled in the courses, the Indian Councill of Agriculture Research (ICAR) has been requested to stop such institution for further admissions. Reportedly, no new enrolment will be done from the 2019 academic session, the official said.
