Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was among the biggest draws at a time the Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008. Fresh from his heroics in the T20I World Cup 2007, Yuvraj together with MS Dhoni were the two superb Indian cricketers in the format and he deservingly acquired the icon player image for his team Kings XI Punjab.
The all-rounder led the team to the semi-finals in the first IPL edition but conditions never really favoured him there. Eventually he had to leave as he went back to the auction pool. A player of his quality brought in massive bids as he went to play for franchises like Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors and Royal Challengers Bangalore, but not once met success.
Ultimately, he became an IPL champion in 2016 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, before winning the cup again with Mumbai Indians. Talking about is time at Kings XI Punjab on the YouTube channel, the 38-year-old told that the franchise did not listen to him.
“I wanted to run away from Kings XI Punjab ... the management didn’t like me there ... they did nothing I asked them to do ... and when I left they bought all the players I had been asking them to. I love Punjab but I did not like the running of the franchise,” Yuvraj said.
The left hander was a star performer for India in the T20I World Cup 2007 and the 2011 ICC World Cup. He was also part of the teams that played in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2014 and the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
