Mahendra Singh Dhoni currently waiting for the ODI series to start in Australia have been criticised for not playing Ranji Trophy for his home state Jharkhand. But Jharkhand coach Rajiv Kumar has set the record straight, Kumar in an interview to Hindustan Times pointed out that, if Dhoni plays the Ranji Trophy many youngsters will not get a chance, so it is better that he stays out.
MS Dhoni did not play the T20I series in Australia in November this year as BCCI explained that they wanted to try Rishabh Pant as a wicket-keeper batsman in place of Dhoni. Dhoni last played international match on November 1 this year.
Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar said that, “Dhoni last played against West Indies in ODIs and will next play Australia in January next year, which is a huge gap. As you grow older and if there is a gap, your reflexes tend to slow down. So one should play domestic cricket to avoid those gaps for a good practice.”
MS Dhoni was retained by his team Chennai Super Kings for Indian Premier League 2019 edition and will also captain the side probably for the last time.
