Banned Australian cricketer Steve Smith recently featured in an advertisement of Vodafone where the infamous video of him crying in a press conference after coming back from South Africa in March this year is also shown. Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were guilty of tampering the ball to change the swing in their favour but were caught red handed.

Many are calling it a PR gimmick to recreate his image after the ball-tampering scandal hit him hard. Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly used the same technique in 2006 when Greg Chappell left him out of the team and many believed that it was the end of Ganguly. But Ganguly made a come back with a Pepsi advertisement where he is heard saying, “Hi mera naam Sourav Ganguly hai, bhule toh nahi?” (Hi, my name is Sourav Ganguly, do you remember me?).

Steve Smith is currently playing club cricket in Australia and was recently in news after he was banned from playing in Bangladesh’s T20 league, Bangladesh Premier League. Smith was also seen with practicing with Australian bowlers before the first Test between India and Australia in Adelaide.

India and Australia are currently playing a four match Test series that is leveled at 1-1 with India winning the first Test in Adelaide by 31 runs and Australia winning the second Test in Perth by 146 runs. The third Test or the Boxing Day Test will be played from December 26-30 in Melbourne Cricket Ground. Virat Kohli and Tim Paine will lead their respective sides.
