'We've the batting prowess to cross 500-run mark in ODI cricket,' says West Indies' Hope

No team in one-day international cricket has ever touched the 500-run mark but West Indies player Shai Hope feels that his team has got the batting prowess to do so. In a high scoring match against New Zealand, West Indies fired up 421 runs in 50 overs.

In reply, New Zealand was bundled up for 330-10 in 47.2 overs with skipper Kane Williamson scoring 85 off 64 balls and uncapped player Tom Blundell scored 106 runs off 89 balls.

West Indies’ Shai Hope believes that reaching 500 in ODI cricket is not impossible for his team after he scored 101 runs in the first innings of the game. Hope said, “It is definitely a goal we can try to achieve at some point, it would be great to be the first team to cross that 500 mark and I am sure we have the batting firepower to do it.”

Andre Russell continued his good form from the Indian Premier League as he hit a quickfire 54 off just 25 balls, including 7 boundaries and 3 maximums. Chris Gayle also contributed as an opener, scoring 36 off 22 balls. Jason Holder and Evin Lewis also scored runs to help West Indies cross the 400-run mark.

West Indies won the match by 91 runs as it came as a confidence booster before the World Cup. The two time World Cup winner will face Pakistan on May 31 in their opening game of the tournament.
