Tempers started to fray between Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi and his former skipper Sarfraz Ahmed during Match 23 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. The incident happened in the 19th over of the Gladiators' innings when a bouncer from the pacer hit Sarfraz on the helmet and it was given a no-ball.
The ball struck Sarfraz on the helmet and went to the third man as Sarfraz and his batting partner Hassan Khan took a single. However, after getting to the non-striker’s end, Sarfraz had something say to the pacer, which didn’t go down well. As a matter of fact, the pacer, in a bellicose response, walked towards Sarfraz for a face-off.
Shaheen Afridi tried to get close to Sarfraz but just when it looked uncontrollable, the umpires came in between. Qalandars' Mohammad Hafeez and Sohail Akhtar joined in to quell the situation. Even after the innings ended, Sarfraz was seen talking to the umpire about the event.
Sarfaraz Ahmed have no right to comment on the bouncer by Shaheen Shah Afridi. Bouncers are part of the game of cricket. Sarfraz called for this undue argument. #PSL2021 #HBLPSL6 #PSL #HBLPSL2021 #LQvQG#QGvLQ pic.twitter.com/LcWexT8Kle

After the match ended, Afridi was questioned about the incident to which he responded saying it was all part of the game. However, what took place didn’t go down well with fans as they criticized the pacer for his actions towards in former skipper. This once again puts focus on the relationship between young players and vetrens in Pakistan cricket. which Wasim Akram had recently talked about. He had said that players need to show more respect towards seniors players and coaches.
However, Sarfraz had the last laugh as the Gladiators beat Qalandars by 18 runs. Jake Weatherald was the top run getter with 48 as the Gladiators put up 158/5 from their stipulated 20 overs. In response, the Qalandars were bundled out for 140 with Tim David's 46 being the highest. Afridi went wicketless and gave away 28 runs while Sarfraz remained not-out on 34.
