Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its second moon mission today at 2:45 pm from Sriharikota. The Chandrayaan-2 mission was launched from Bahubali (GSLV Mk-III) rocket and will reach the surface of the moon after orbiting around Earth for 48 days.

The Chandrayaan-2 is the second mission of India to the moon after it successfully launched Chandrayaan-1 in 2008, which discovered water on the moon. Chandrayaan-2 will land on the southernmost region of the moon explore the south pole. India will become the first country in the world to land on the south pole of the moon.

The Chandrayaan-2 was supposed to take-off on July 15 but the mission was called off at T-56 minutes due to a technical glitch.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli acknowledged the achievement of Indian scientists and congratulated them. Virat Kohli took to his Twitter account and shared a post that read, “Another historic and proud moment for the nation as the #Chandrayaan 2 is launched #ISRO #IndiaMoonMission.”

Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan also congratulated ISRO and posted a Tweet from his official handle that read, “Indeed a historic moment for India. Congratulations to all the members of @isro for successfully launching #Chandrayaan2.”
