Indian skipper Virat Kohli was reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday for inappropriate physical contact with South African bowler Beuran Hendricks. In a statement on their official website, the international cricket body wrote: “India captainVirat Kohli has received an official warning and one demerit point after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during Sunday’s third T20I against South Africa.

After winning the toss, Virat Kohli-led Indian team decided to bat first and put up a target for the visiting South African team. India lost an early wicket when vice-captain Rohit Sharma played an uncertain shot and edged the ball towards first slip off Beuran Hendricks’ ball.

But when Hendricks came back to bowl the fifth over there was just a little shoulder-nudge from Kohli as he ran past the South African bowler. The shoulder-nudge was a reply by Kohli to Hendricks’ stare.

Kohli was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada a couple of overs later when he whipped a shot up in the air, the ball hanged in the air for quite a bit before Andile Phehlukwayo took a catch stretching to his left near the boundary rope. Kohli scored just 9 runs off 15 balls before he was sent back to the pavilion.

India lost the game against South Africa by 9 wickets and the three-match series ended in a draw 1-1. The Test series between India and South Africa will start from October 2.
