The stage if set for the focus to shift back to cricket as India lock horns with world champions England in the first Test at Nottingham in Trent starting from Wednesday. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who has struggled to be among the runs in away Tests for the past few matches, will be keen to put his best foot forward and get the score board running for India.

A glance at Virat Kohli’s statistics indicate that his run of form have taken a downfall in matches played outside India since 2019. In nine home Tests, The Indian skipper has amassed 625 runs at an average of 62.50, with 2 Tests centuries.

On the other hand, he has scored just 332 runs in 7 matches at an average of 25.53 and scored zero centuries in away Tests.

The 32-year-old’s last Test hundred came against Bangladesh in the Day/Night Test in Kolkata in 2019. Therefore, the Indian run machine would be hoping to shed off the cobwebs and get back to his optimal in Trent Bridge. And if he manages to do that, he may clinch a massive milestone.

Provided, Virat Kohli scores a hundred in the first Test against the three lions at Trent Bridge, he would go past Australian legend Ricky Ponting’s record of being the captain with most international centuries.

It would be Virat Kohli’s 42nd international hundred as a skipper. Currently, Ricky Ponting and Virat Kohli are level at the top spot in this list with 41 centuries under their belt.

The men in blue and England will take part in five Tests. Meanwhile, India are facing a massive selection conundrum ahead of 1st Test with opener Shubman Gill getting ruled out because of a shin injury while Mayank Agarwal also declared unavailable for the Nottingham Test after suffering a concussion during the net practice on Monday.
