Captain Virat Kohli has smashed a hundred in each of India's 400th, 450th and 500th victories in ODIs. The 30-year-old had slammed 128*(119) against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2012, which was India's 400th ODI win. In 2015 he smashed 138(140) against South Africa in India's 450th ODI win. Kohli marked India's 500th ODI victory today with 116(120) against Australia.

As far as the match is concerned, Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first. India set the target of 250 from 48.2 overs with Virat Kohli smashing his 40th ODI century in the process. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did not perform well with their bat. All-rounder Vijay Shankar was looking good as he made 41-ball 46 before he became prey of an unfortunate incident and was run-out by Adam Zampa.

In the second innings, Australia was looking good as their openers set the stage for them before two back to back wickets shifted the momentum in India’s favour. Opener Aaron Finch was dismissed lbw by Kuldeep Yadav for 53-ball 37, while Kedar Jadhav took Usman Khawaja’s wicket for 37-ball 38. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Shaun Marsh for 27-ball 16 in the 24th over.

Glenn Maxwell was clean bowled for 18-ball 4 by Kuldeep Yadav, while Ravindra Jadeja’s amazing throw dismissed Peter Handscomb for 59-ball 48. Alex Carey was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for 24-ball 22. Nathan Coulter-Nile was clean bowled for 4 by Bumrah’s fantastic Yorker. Pat Cummins came in and was caught behind by MS Dhoni for a duck.

Marcus Stoinis made an amazing half-century when Australia was under pressure. But Vijay Shankar came in and spoiled the party for Australia as he dismissed Stoinis in the first ball of the last over, Stoinis made 65-ball 52.
