His brilliant innings has take him a step closer to Australia’s Steve Smith, who is currently at the top of the ICC Test rankings for batsmen. In the latest ranking, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is in second spot with 936 points, and Steve Smith, who had a masterful Ashes series, has 937 points.

The Indian skipper, who had plummeted 900 points after the first Test since January 2018, has climbed up to 936 points, which is just one below his career best since August 2018. the Indian run machine therefore has a great chance to retrieve the top Test spot after the last Test in Ranchi, starting 19th October.
Team India have secured 40 points in the ICC World Test Championship points table following the win in Pune to reach 200 points. The men in blue had secured a full 120 points for a 2-0 series win against West Indies and are in line to double the tally in this series.
