Virat Kohli and boys wear black armbands as mark of respect for Arun Jaitley

Indian cricket team playing against West Indies in the Caribbean takes the field wearing black armbands as a mark of respect for former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president. The former finance minister passed away today at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Arun Jaitley a former cricket administrator was the president of Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) from 1999 to 2013.

According to IANS, a senior BCCI functionary said that BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry proposed the idea. The board and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and CEO Rahul Johri all agreed with the idea.

A BCCI release read, “During his long tenure as the President of the Delhi & District Cricket Association, he brought about a tremendous change in the cricketing infrastructure. A close friend of the cricketers, he always stood by them, encouraged them and supported them in their quest for excellence. The BCCI shares the pain and grief of the Jaitley family and prays for the departed soul.”
