Rishabh Pant made his World Cup debut against England and came in to bat at number 4 ahead of in-form Hardik Pandya. Pant scored 32 off 29 balls before he was dismissed by Liam Plunkett when Chris Woakes took an amazing catch at third-man point.
India lost the match by 31 runs after England won the toss and elected to bat first. England put up a mammoth target of 338 runs with the help of Jonny Bairstow’s century and Ben Stokes’ explosive 79 off 54 balls.
Rohit Sharma played his part by making yet another century in this World Cup but the middle order batsmen couldn’t fire and cost India its first defeat. Virat Kohli scored his fifth half-century of this tournament and Hardik Pandya played his role beautifully by scoring 45 off 33 balls.
Rohit Sharma in the post-match press conference was asked about Rishabh Pant coming to bat ahead of Hardik Pandya to which the Indian vice-captain had a cheeky reply.

Sharma said, “No, not really because you all guys wanted Rishabh Pant to play right?, right from India, you were like where's Rishabh Pant, where's Rishabh Pant, there he is at No.4.” The entire conference room broke into laughter listening to Sharma’s hilarious reply.
