Chris Gayle the ‘Universe Boss’ is known for his power hitting performances and is arguably one of the best hitter in the shortest format of the game. On this day in 2013, Chris Gayle hit 175 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore to make the highest individual T20 score ever.
On April 23, 2013, Chris Gayle’s 175 run-knock came against Pune Warriors when Gayle storm hit M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Gayle’s 175 runs came in from just 66 balls which included 17 sixes and 13 boundaries. Gayle also took two wickets in just one over in the next innings.
The 39-year old batsman literally brought a Gayle storm as rain interrupted his knock for 33 minutes. But that couldn’t break his concentration as he came back and started hitting the ball out of the park again. Interestingly, no team was ready to buy Gayle in the IPL auction but Royal Challengers Bangalore brought him in the end and he didn’t disappoint.

Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 263 runs from 20 overs which is also the highest IPL total in an innings. Chris Gayle hit fastest century off just 30 balls which still stands today. Gayle has the most number of centuries in the IPL as he has scored 6 in total.
Royal Challengers Bangalore went on to win the match by 130 runs courtesy Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. De Villiers’ 31 off just 8 balls also played an important part in boosting Gayle’s confidence and so did Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 33 run knock and 167 run partnership stand with the universe boss.
