Following India’s victory in the second ODI of the three match series against the West Indies, the men in blue entered the Barbati Stadium in Orissa with a holy grail to set the seal on the series.
With the series being tied 1-1 both sides were positive about putting up a exuberant show in the final match. However, the fielding woes continued for India in the third ODI. After being put to bat first, the Windies put up a mammoth total of 315 runs on the scorecard. Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard distroyed the Indian bowling unit as they knocked 89 and 74 respectively.
Indian bowling unit was not able to take wickets at regular intervals as Pollard and Pooran created a record fifth wickets stand of 135 runs. Navdeep Saini, who donned the Indian ODI Jersey for the first time, came out as their top performer as he picked up two wickets.

Rishabh Pant, who has often been under fire for is dismal performence behind the stumps, failed to leave his footprint in the third ODI. The 22-year-old dropped three easy catches which made Twitterati fume over his poor wicket keeping skills. Pant dropped an easy catch in the 25th over when Shimron Hetmyer was at the crease on nine runs. Hetmyer eventually fell on 37 runs.
Rishabh Pant had displayed his batting potential in the last game, where he knocked 39 runs off just 16 deliveries.
The debate over Pant’s inclusion in the side has been perpetual issue. The latter was deemed as former skipper MS Dhoni’s successor. However, Pant has failed to fill the void which Dhoni left.
Prior to the ODI series, many fans were irked vis-a-vis Pant’s selection over Sanju Samson. If Pant continues to repeat his mistakes, it will ne a difficult task for Pant to consolidate his place in the Indian team.
