Tuesday was the deadline for the submission of application for the post of team India’s head coach. The process now goes into the second round where the applications will be scaned and applicants shortlisted.
Those deemed suitable will be interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of former India skipper Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and former women’s captain Shanta Rangaswamy. Both Kapil Dev and Anshuman Gaekwad have served as a coach of the national team.
The interview round for the coaching members is likely to start on August 13 as per the new constitution, the interview will be taken by national selection committee members, according to a report in Hindustan Times.
Current coach Ravi Shastri and other support staff have found an automatic entry in the recruitment process. The current coaching team’s tenure has been extended till the new team is ready.
Many personalities of cricketing reputation have applied for the job. Former Indian feilding coach Robin Singh, Tom Moody who has coached Sunrisers Hyderabad, former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson and Mahela Jayawardene are in the fray. South Africa’s fielding legend Jonty Rhodes has also applied for the fielding coach role.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli not long ago expressed his favour for Ravi Shastri. The two share a special bond and has led India to meny memorable wins. Ravi Shastri will be in West Indies when the Interview process starts and is likely to make a presentation through Skype.
The applications have also been invited for coaching role in batting, bowling and fielding, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning besides that of the adinistertive manager. If everything goes smoothly, the name of the next Indian coach will be out by mid August.
