Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Steve Smith posted a heart warming message before leaving for Australia. Smith who replaced Ajinkya Rahane as captain mid-season, wished his team good luck for remaining matches. Smith left early to train along-side his national team before the World Cup.
Steve Smith took to his official Instagram account and wrote, “Thank you @rajasthanroyals for the last 7 weeks. I’ve enjoyed every minute of this ipl and I’m glad to be involved with such a great franchise with so many wonderful people. Good luck in Delhi boys! #hallabol.”
Smith was announced captain of Rajasthan Royals after they came back from a two-year ban but Smith was banned just before the IPL for tampering with ball in South Africa. Smith’s team-mate David Warner, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad was also banned for a year.
Warner came back with a bang as he scored 692 runs from 12 matches at an average of 69. Warner is the current orange cap holder but left his team after they defeated Kings XI Punjab. Warner also posted a similar message before leaving for Australia.
Rajasthan Royals are currently sitting at number five on the points table with 11 points from 13 matches. Their match against Royal Challengers was abandoned due to rain which was also Smith’s last IPL game.
