Australian cricketer David Warner and Steve Smith were booed off by English crowd when they came in to bat. When Warner was going towards the crease English fans shouted, “Get off Warner you cheat.” Fans were also heard shouting, “cheat, cheat, cheat,” when Steve Smith came in to bat.
Both Warner and Smith gave a befitting reply to the hostile crowd as they contributed with the bats. Warner continued his positive form from the Indian Premier League as he scored 43 off 55 balls before being dismissed by Liam Plunkett. Steve Smith, on the other hand, scored a fantastic century and let his bat do the talking. It was a gratifying slap on English fans’ face as the Australian duo showed what they are capable of.
Steve Smith scored 116 off 102 balls before he was caught and bowled by Tom Curran. Australia scored 297 runs in 50 overs and bundled out England for 287 runs to win the game by 12 runs. James Vince, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes scored some runs for the team but it wasn’t enough to win them the match.
Defending champions Australia showed the world why they should fear them as they defeated the most favorite team in this World Cup.
