South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 9 wickets to win their second World Cup match

South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 9 wickets to win their second World Cup 2019 match. South Africa chased down 203 runs in just 37.2 overs.

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to field first. South African bowlers did a good job in restricting Sri Lanka under 203 runs. Kagiso Rabada opened the bowling attack for the Proteas as he dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne in the very first ball of the innings.


Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando were the highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka as both of them scored 30 runs each. Kusam Mendis scored 23, Dhananjaya de Silva scored 24 and Thisara Perera scored 21 runs in the process of losing wickets at regular intervals.

Chris Morris and Dwaine Pretorius took three wickets each while Rabada took two to his name. Andile Phehlukwayo and JP Duminy took one wicket each. South Africa’s star opener Imran Tahir went wicket-less.

In reply, South Africa lost an early wicket when Lasith Malinga dismissed Quinton de Kock for 15 runs. Hashim Amla and skipper Faf du Plessis notched up 188 run partnership together as they finished the job for South Africa, they scored 80 and 96 runs respectively. Faf du Plessis couldn't make his first century of this World Cup but scored his third fifty and this time it came in a winning cause.
