Sourav Ganguly had also requested Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s presence to grace the happening. She accepted the invitation and was also seen ringing the bell alongside West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Fans also expressed their gratitude towards Ganguly for the historic day in Indian cricket while some felt the BCCI president is working hard.
"Glad to see BCCI president is working hard," one the fan tweeted.
"Historic day in Indian Cricket. Thank You Dada," another said.
Sourav Ganguly had suggested the Eden Gardens Test to be a day-night match to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) soon after he took office as the BCCI chief. Bangladesh cricket body accepted the suggestion made by Ganguly and as a result both the nations are playing their first ever pink ball Test.
India became the seventh nation to host the day-night Test after Australia, UAE, England, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies.
As yet, 11 pink ball Tests have been played around the world since Australia and New Zealand played the first ever day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval in November 2015.
