Rajasthan Royals’ leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal created history last night against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Shreyas became first bowler to take hat-trick in the first five-over match in the history of Indian Premier League.
Gopal took wickets of the big three as he dismissed Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis in the 2nd over of the first innings. Virat went for 25 runs before being dismissed, AB de Villiers for 10 runs, while Marcus Stoinis was dismissed for a golden duck.
The match was reduced to five overs per side as it started pouring down and later it was abandoned in the second innings when rain started again. The match ended with no result as both the teams were awarded one point each.
Royal Challengers Bangalore made 62 runs from five overs after they lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Rajasthan Royals in reply made 41 runs from 3.2 overs before the match was called off. Sanju Samson was the wicket Rajasthan lost before the match was abandoned, Sanju scored 28 off 13 balls.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are officially out of the league as they have 9 points from 13 matches they have played so far. Rajasthan Royals moved to fifth spot with 11 points from 13 games. RCB are left with one more match against Sunrisers Hyderabad that will just be a formality for them. Rajasthan Royals will play Delhi Capitals on 4th May and it will be an important match for them as the latter have already qualified for the play-offs.
