Shane Warne's brutal assessment after Australia's exit from the World Cup 2019

The host England secured their spot in the first World Cup final since 1992 after they beat Australia at Edgbaston on Thursday.

Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid who claimed three wickets each helped England bundle out Australia for just 223 runs after Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat first.

England opener Jason Roy then scored a brilliant 85 of just 65 deliveries, with Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Jonny Bairstow all contributing as England achieved the target with more than 17 overs remaining.

‘I’m disappointed from a personal point of view,’ Australia legend Warne told Sky Sports. ‘They were outplayed from the off.

‘The first ten overs were crucial and Australia were 27-3. They tried to recover; Carey showed guts and courage and Smith showed his class, that’s why he’s one of the best.

‘You thought if they could get 250 they might have have a chance, but England showed their class. They were superb with bat and ball.

‘To me they’re peaking at the right time, that’s what you need at World Cups. England were outstanding in all departments and outplayed Australia, simple as.’

England will go face to face with New Zealand in Sunday’s World Cup final and Shane Warne believes that it will take something special from New Zealand to stop England from lifting the ICC World Cup 2019.

‘Someone is going to have to stand up for New Zealand,’ legendary spinner,’ Warne added.

‘Martin Guptill hasn’t done one thing in this World Cup with the bat but running out MS Dhoni in the semi-final might give him some confidence.

‘He can come off so England might have to be careful of him. He can whack it out the park.’
