Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan blames his captain Mashrafe Mortaza for World Cup debacle. Bangladesh finished at number eight in the 10-team tournament and won just three out of the nine matches they played.
Shakib who was in top form in the World Cup as he scored 606 runs and picked up 11 wickets in eight matches said that the captain was not performing and when a player is not performing he starts thinking about his own performance more than the team.
“For many reasons, many things do not happen. When a player is not performing, he starts thinking about his own performance more than the team. Then it becomes an issue. I think the same thing happened with Mashrafe bhai. Since the captain was not performing, it became a problem for him, and also for the team. The captain has to perform. There is no alternative for it,” Shakib was quoted as saying by wisden.com
Bangladesh will play a one-off Test match against Afghanistan from 5th to 9th September before starting the tri-nation T20 series with Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. After that Bangladesh will play a bilateral series against India starting from 3rd November.
