SA vs IND: Pant overtakes MS Dhoni in elite list of Indian wicketkeepers in Test

Team India’s wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant on Tuesday arrived at a huge milestone during the ongoing first Test against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

The youngster has gone past MS Dhoni to become the quickest Indian wicketkeeper to register 100 Test dismissals. Pant pulled off the feat with the dismissal of Temba Bavuma.

While Pant has achieved the record in his 26th Test, MS Dhoni had reached the same feat in his 36th Test. South Africa’s Quinton de Kock tops the overall list, having logged 100 dismissals in just 22 Tests.

The 23-year-old is also the sixth Indian behind Dhoni, Syed Kirmani, Kiran More, Nayan Mongia and Wriddhiman Saha to arrive at the three-figure mark. Just so you know, MS Dhoni has the most dismissals by an Indian wicketkeeper with 294.

Rishabh Pant was dropped for the recent two-match Test series against the Kiwis at home. Saha had kept the wickets for the team in Pant’s absence as India won the series 1-0 after beating the Black Caps in the second Test by 9 wickets in Mumbai.

In the meantime, the men in blue were bundled out for 327, losing their last 7 wickets for just 55 runs, on Day 3 of the ongoing first Test.

KL Rahul knocked a fine 123 while Mayank Agarwal also scored a fifty (60). However, India made a strong comeback by getting seven South African wickets early on Tuesday.

India are on South Africa tour to take part in three Tests, followed by as many ODIs.

The second Test will be played at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium from January 3. The third and final Test will start from January 11 in Cape Town.
