Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh to Brett Lee here's what cricketers feel about the rule that changed NZ's fate

England won the Cricket World Cup 2019 after a nail-biting final against New Zealand. The winner was decided by superior boundary rate, a rule that has gained much focus after the World Cup final. Nobody knew about the rule till yesterday including cricketers who are all for a change in ICC rules after New Zealand’s defeat in the final.

Both New Zealand and England scored 241 runs each in their respective innings. A super over was played for the first time in the history of ODI cricket to break the tie but that ended in a tie as well. Both teams scored 15 runs each in the super over, eventually, it was England who was crowned champions over superior boundary rate.

Indian opener Rohit Sharma, former cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Brett Lee, Mike Hesson have all expressed dissent and requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to look into the rules. The cricketers felt that it was not a fair decision to decide the winner over a superior boundary rate.

Indian opener Rohit Sharma took to his official Twitter handle to express his dissent. Sharma wrote, “Some rules in cricket definitely needs a serious look in.” Former Australian cricketer and World Cup winner Brett Lee wrote, “Congratulations to England! Commiserations New Zealand. I’ve got to say that it’s a horrible way to decide the winner. This rule has to change.”

While former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh wrote, “I don’t agree with that rule ! But rules are rules congratulations to England on finally winning the World Cup , my heart goes out for the kiwis they fought till the end. Great game an epic final !!!! #CWC19Final.”
