Indian opener Rohit Sharma has been playing non-stop cricket this year. Without a doubt, it has been a great year for him. He led Mumbai Indians to glory in IPL 2019 by beating Chennai Super Kings in the final.
Rohit continued his form in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019. His ability saw him knock a string of centuries, hence, becoming the first cricketer to score five hundreds in the quadrennial event.
He then continued his dominance in Test cricket and established himself as the most complete cricketer across all formats. When he made his debut as an opener in Test cricket against South Africa, he justified his selection by knocking brilliant century in the first Test in Vizag.
In the latest development, the 32-year-old has decided to take a break from cricket. Rohit, who has been a regular across all formats this year will miss the forthcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.
The first T20I is slated to be played at Guwahati on 5th January, the second one will be played in Indore on 7th January and the third one will be played at Pune on 10th January. It has been determined that Rohit is likely to be back for the ODI series against Australia later in January.
“The selectors normally don’t give rest to anyone in the T20 team, but Rohit has been on the road for quite a while now. He has informed the Board that he wants to take rest for this series,” a source in the BCCI told TOI.
Shikhar Dhawan, who recently recuperated from a knee injury will open with KL Rahul against Sri Lanka.
