Indian opener Rohit Sharma on Sunday outstripped skipper Virat Kohli to become the highest run scorer in T20Is. The stand-in Indian captain Rohit Sharma accomplished the feat in his 99th T20I which also made him the most capped Indian cricketer. The 32 year old surpassed MS Dhoni’s total of 98 T20Is for the national side.
Rohit Sharma reached the milestone during the first T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi when he smashed past cover to pick up a four off Shafiul Islam’s delivery. But Rohit’s stay at the crease came to an end on the next ball when he was LBW for just nine runs.
The 32 year old opener has cumulated 2452 runs so farin 99 matches, while Virat Kohli has 2450 runs in 72 matches.
Simultaneously, Rohit Sharma is head to head at second place on the list of most T20I appearances with former Paakistan skipper Shahid Afridi (99). Top of the pile is another Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik with 111 matches.
Of late Rohit Sharma his enjoyed a great run of form. After top scoring ICC World Cup 2019 with 648 runs, Rohit also made his debut as a Test opener for the man in blue during the recent series against South Africa. He ended up amassing 529 runs in the series, which included a maiden double hundred in red ball cricket.
