Indian opener Rohit Sharma breaks former Sri Lanka player Kumar Sangakkara’s record as he smashed the fifth century of this World Cup. Sangakkara held the previous record of hitting the most number of centuries in a World Cup edition as he smashed four in 2015 World Cup.
Sharma scored his fifth century of this World Cup against Sri Lanka. Sharma hit his first century in the very first game against South Africa where he remained unbeaten at 122. Sharma then smashed 140 against Pakistan, 102 against England, 104 against Bangladesh and now 100 not out against Sri Lanka.

Rohit Sharma is now the highest run-scorer of this World Cup as he surpassed Shakib Al Hasan to score 647 runs and still counting at the time of publishing this story. Sharma is on a verge of breaking legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most number of runs in a World Cup edition.
Sachin scored 673 runs in 2003 World Cup, which is the highest by any batsman in a single edition of World Cup. Earlier in the World Cup, Rohit Sharma broke Sourav Ganguly’s record of scoring the most number of centuries in a World Cup edition. Ganguly scored three centuries in 2003 World Cup.
