Ranji Trophy is named after this Indian Cricketer who played for England

Ranji Trophy is a familiar name if you watch cricket. It is the first-class domestic cricket trophy of India's BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). The first tournament of Ranji Trophy was was held in the year 1934.

The competition currently consists of 37 teams, with all 29 states in India and 2 of the 7 union territories.

The current Ranji Trophy championship is held by Vidarbha and the most championship is held by Mumbai, with total of 41 titles. The most runs in the history of Ranji Trophy is by Wasim Jaffer and Rajinder Goel have the most number of wickets, with 640.

Ranji Trophy is named after the first Indian international cricketer Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji Jadeja. He played for the English Cricket team and also played for Sussex in County cricket.

Ranji Trophy was named in his honour and inaugurated in 1935 by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. His nephew Duleepsinghji followed Ranji's path as a batsman playing first-class cricket in England and the England cricket team. Duleep Trophy is named after him.
