Former Pakistan pacer bowler Shoaib Akhtar feels that Pakistan won’t be able to win the upcoming World Cup. Akhtar believes that England will lift the trophy for the first time as they are playing at their home conditions and have selected a good team.
Akhtar said he is confident that Pakistan will reach the semi-finals but won’t be able to win the coveted 50-over tournament.
“The England cricket team once hold a reputation for not being serious with limited overs cricket, look at them now. There is a bit of a problem in their bowling, but it looks a very compact team. If you ask me, I think England is winning this World Cup,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.
Akhtar also added that senior players from the side will have to make a statement by their performances as it will be their last World Cup. Shoaib Malik has already announced that he will retire from the ODI cricket after the World Cup. Mohammad Hafeez who is now 38-year old is also playing his last World Cup most probably.
Pakistan have won the World Cup once in 1992 under the captaincy of current Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistan will play their first match of the World Cup against West Indies on May 31.
