Mumbai Indians became the first team to reach the finals of Indian Premier League 2019. Mumbai defeated Chennai by 6 wickets to secure the win at the latter’s home ground. IPL 2019 has been a great show of last over finishes but last night was a one way road as Mumbai comfortably cruised into the finals.
Mumbai Indians registered some amazing records last night, one of them was that they have not lost a single match at Chepauk since 2010. Mumbai Indians will now play in their fifth IPL final the most after Chennai Super Kings’ seven finals. CSK and Mumbai Indians met three times this season and the yellow army was defeated in all three matches.
Mumbai and Chennai have met 29 times in IPL and the former have an upper hand as they have defeated CSK 17 times. Both the teams have met 8 times in the play-offs and the head-to-head count is 4-4.
Mumbai Indians may have started their IPL 2019 poorly but they bounced back so hard that they are in finals now. After winning the toss Chennai decided to bat first and their decision proved to be a nightmare as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
In the end CSK posted 131 runs on the board with the help of Ambati Rayudu’s 42 and MS Dhoni’s quick-fire 37. Mumbai Indians also lost two early wickets but Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan constant their innings. The duo notched up 80 run partnership stand together to take Mumbai to a comfortable position. Surya Kumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 71 runs in the big match.
